Biotechnology relies on the application of scientific and engineering principles to process materials by biological agents for producing goods and services for mankind.

There are many applications of Biotechnology in industrial sectors, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, food, energy and environment.

The Department of Biotechnology was established in 1992-93 with a vision to make an impact through research, technology-based training and innovation.

The department offers graduate and postgraduate courses in Biotechnology. It also offers two introductory Biotechnology courses to undergraduate students of other faculties of the university.

Our academic and research activities focus on modern biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, molecular biology, genetic engineering, tissue culture and national food security.

The department aims to train graduates who can contribute to research, professional organizations and biotechnology-based development in agriculture, medicine, environment, food processing and renewable energy.

Objectives

The department focuses on imparting quality education, promoting agricultural biotechnology and applying biotechnology knowledge for efficient and environmentally sound agriculture.
