Department of Horticulture

Horticulture is one of the most important disciplines of agriculture. The production and returns from horticultural crops are high as compared to other crops.

Horticultural crops such as fruits, vegetables and flowers possess strong export potential and can earn valuable foreign exchange.

The Department of Horticulture imparts quality education to students of Sindh and Balochistan provinces and conducts research on fruits, vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants.

The department offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs to meet the province’s trained manpower needs and also provides training in various aspects of horticulture.

Welcome to the Department of Horticulture. The department is committed to quality education, practical training and research in fruits, vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants.

Our academic and research activities focus on improving horticultural crop production, post-harvest handling, packaging, marketing, breeding and propagation techniques.

The department also provides advisory services to fruit and vegetable growers and conducts research on farming problems with the involvement of graduate and postgraduate students.

Objectives

The main objective of the department is to train undergraduate and postgraduate students in production, post-harvest techniques, storage, processing and marketing of horticultural crops along with landscape and aesthetic environmental impact.

  • Improve the quality, variety and availability of horticultural products for export-oriented production.
  • Strengthen the competitive position of Sindh’s horticulture industry.
  • Popularize high-density planting concepts for higher and quality mango production.
