Since the majority of Pakistan consists of rural people, Rural Sociology plays an important role in understanding rural life, social structure, social activity and the changing conditions of rural societies.

Rural Sociology has gradually expanded its focus to different social subjects in the creation of scientific knowledge. As no event can happen without cause, the scope and importance of Rural Sociology is evident from its subject matter.

The Department proposes relevant subjects to understand ever-changing social phenomena while ensuring progress in rural societies. In particular, the Department offers B.Sc. (Agri.) Hons and M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons in the field of Rural Sociology.

Department Introduction

Rural Sociology is deeply rooted in societies where morality, civilization and social organization are important areas of study. The discipline helps students understand rural communities, social institutions, social relationships and community development.

Developed and underdeveloped societies have recognized the importance of Rural Sociology for understanding and addressing rural social issues. Developing countries especially need this field for dealing with rural social problems, community development and social change.
