Department of Land and Water Management

Department of Land and Water Management

Soil and water are the key natural resources for the sustainability of flora, fauna and the environmental system. However, their unwise use creates threats to sustainable agriculture and the environment.

In Pakistan, large investments have been made in planning, design, construction and maintenance of farm irrigation systems, but many schemes have not fully achieved the planned agricultural and social objectives.

Keeping in view the importance of technical education in land and water resources management, the Department of Land and Water Management was established in December 1985 in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering.

The department produces graduates with technical expertise in the management of land and water resources and offers postgraduate degree programs of M.E and Ph.D. in Land and Water Management.

Mission of the Department

The mission of the department is to produce highly motivated and talented professional engineers with expertise in soil and water resources conservation and management.

The department imparts quality education through a wide range of subjects and research activities to enhance the productivity of land and water resources for future food and fiber demands.

It also provides training and advisory services to the farming community and plays a leading role in soil and water conservation and management education.

The department is committed to transferring research findings through extension programs, short courses and outreach activities for farmers, policymakers, students and professionals.
