Department of Agricultural Economics

The Department of Agricultural Economics was established in 1975 with the aim to produce economists having strong understanding of the basic concepts of Agricultural Economics along with economic theories and their applications related to economic issues in general and agriculture in particular.

The Department focuses on developing professionals who can contribute to the nation’s wealth and economy by applying economic knowledge to agriculture, rural development, agribusiness, production, marketing and policy-related issues.

The Department offers B.Sc. (Agri.) Hons, M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics. It also started B.Sc. in Agribusiness Management in 2019 and recently started MS Agribusiness Management.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. The Department is committed to providing quality education, research opportunities and professional training in agricultural economics, agribusiness management and rural economic development.

Our academic programs are designed to produce competent graduates who can understand, analyze and solve economic problems related to agriculture, food systems, production, marketing and rural communities.

We aim to strengthen teaching, research and policy-oriented learning so that our students may contribute to sustainable agricultural development and the economic progress of Pakistan.

Academic & Research Focus

The Department focuses on agricultural economics, agribusiness management, production economics, marketing economics, agricultural finance, rural development, food security, climate change economics and policy-oriented research.

Academic Programs

B.Sc. (Agri.) Hons Agricultural Economics

Undergraduate degree program focused on the foundations of agricultural economics, production, marketing, finance and economic analysis in agriculture.

M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons Agricultural Economics

Postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in agricultural economics and related areas.

Ph.D. Agricultural Economics

Doctoral program focused on advanced research, policy analysis, agricultural development and economic problem solving.

B.Sc. in Agribusiness Management

A new degree program started by the Department in 2019 to develop skills in agribusiness, management, value chains and agricultural enterprise development.

MS Agribusiness Management

A recently started program focused on advanced agribusiness management, agricultural markets, business planning and enterprise development.

Ongoing Projects

The Department is engaged in national and international research projects related to irrigation equity, rural poverty, crop diversification, small farmers’ income, groundwater management and horticultural market reforms.

Completed research projects include work on agroforestry economics, sustainable livelihoods, social research, disease management, mango value-added products and rural women’s economic participation.
