Department of Farm Power and Machinery

The Department of Farm Power and Machinery has an old history traced back to the origin of the Agricultural College. During the college era from 1958 to 1976, it worked under the name of the Department of Agricultural Engineering.

After the establishment of Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam in 1977, the department was merged into the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering with its present name and nomenclature.

The department is one of the major departments of the faculty and caters to the manpower needs of Sindh and Balochistan through graduate and postgraduate degree programs.

The vision of the department is to become a center of excellence in farm mechanization through quality teaching, innovative research and collaboration with industries.

Mission of the Department

The mission of the Department is to provide knowledge and expertise to graduates in the design, development, modification, testing, evaluation and promotion of low-cost farm machines.

The department focuses on testing and evaluation of imported as well as locally produced farm machines for proper selection and efficient utilization in different farm activities.

It works for the advancement and dissemination of farm mechanization technologies and provides technical assistance to local farm machinery industries and farmers.

Through engineering workshop facilities, laboratories and practical training, the department provides a scientific environment for teaching and research activities in farm mechanization and allied disciplines.

Design, testing, evaluation and field performance of tillage, sowing, harvesting and crop production machinery.

Academic focus on machine design, machine components, fabrication and development of agricultural implements.

Practical training in machine shop, smithy shop, welding, carpentry, engineering drawing and mechanical repair work.

Bachelor of Engineering

Undergraduate education in Agricultural Engineering with courses in metallurgy, workshop practices, thermodynamics, machine design, tractors, farm machinery, automation and instrumentation.

Master of Engineering

Postgraduate coursework and research in soil cutting and tillage, agricultural machinery management, data handling, advanced farm power, tractor implement performance and machinery design.

Ph.D. Program

Advanced research guidance in farm mechanization, tillage systems, machinery traffic, machinery performance, machine development and agricultural engineering technologies.

Workshop, Laboratories & Facilities

Farm Power Laboratory

Demonstration of engines, engine parts, working principles, power transmission systems and testing equipment for different engine systems.

Farm Machinery Laboratory

Research and demonstration facilities for tractors, plows, rotavators, cultivators, harrows, planters, reapers, harvesters and other farm machines.

Machine Shop

Infrastructure facilities including lathe machine, milling machine, shaper machine, electric bench drill, hydraulic press and mechanical hacksaw.

Smithy Shop

Practical facilities for welding, folding, pressing and cutting of metals through electric arc welding, gas welding, spot welding and furnace work.

Drawing Hall

Drawing boards, drafting machine, overhead projector and instruments for practical work in engineering drawing and machine design.

Tractor Garage & Carpentry Shop

Repair and maintenance facilities for tractors, engine components and wooden works through mechanical and carpentry shop equipment.
